I love when I get a library book and it has the previous reader’s notes in it. It’s almost like we’re having a dialogue about the exact pages I’m reading minus the interruption that would come with having another person physically there.

  1. I like that too, especially when the previous reader’s notes are thoughtful and engaging. There’s even something mysterious about it; I suddenly want to know more about that reader and like trying to imagine how they might have said those notes out loud (sarcastically, angrily, etc.). It’s pretty amusing, though, when you get notes that are not even coherent.

I also enjoy looking back at books I’ve jotted notes in from my earlier years. In general, everything’s highlighted in a hideous yellow and my notes consist primarily of brilliant observations such as, “WHAT?!” and “PLOT TWIST!!!”

    1. Comments can tell just as much as the actual text can, I think! I’m a little tempted to start leaving more stickies in the books I borrow, just because I like finding them so much.
